Horses for life , horses for learning ...
In the beginning there was ...
Nature's Perfection.
Once Upon a Time we (humans) knew nothing about horses.

Now it seems, we know even less.

Everthing we (at the Kenner Horse Ranch) know is derived from the "knowledge" and experiences of others.  Very little did we "discover" for ourselves.  Much of this "knowledge" however, either just doesn't apply or can in some situations be just plain wrong.  This is what I mean when I say I think we know even less than nothing.

It appears to me that "others that know" potentially have agendas.  For example, they may wish to sell us products, services, and all manner of things without really understanding what we are trying to accomplish ... what we value ... and the direction we wish to go with our wonderful horses.  In other cases, these folks have an emotional position on what the "right" thing to do is.  In either case, it's hard to wade through what is truly known so that we may fashion an approach that works best for both our horses and us.

What does it mean to be "Horse Smart?"
Home
To be fair, some do "know."  I believe we have met a few of them.  They come and they go.  But if you asked me to pick them out of a line-up, I couldn't do it.  Hmm ... well, that's not exactly true.  I think that those that say they know something almost always don't.  Yet, those that don't outwardly profess their knowledge often do.  It's not a perfect rule.  But I think it often applies.

The temptation for us (the Kenners) is to build our horse business primarily on the knowledge of others.  It's just easier.  But I think it's a house of cards.  At some point, we have to take a step back in order to learn what is needed to accomplish great things with our horses and horse business.  Because that really is our commitment: achieving the extraordinary

Therefore ... we do need to start at the beginning!

EQuiSmarts is the on-line place we come to achieve the extraordinary.  It's not a place where we define our truths about horses for others.  Instead it is a place where we learn to seek the truth about horses and horsemanship--for ouselves.

If it all works out, I suspect we will never completely find all the answers.  Instead, I merely hope we learn how to enjoy looking for them.
